GIFT WRAPPING WITH FRESH PINE

I get really excited about wrapping presents around the holidays.  I like to take the time to make each package look pretty and incorporate some natural elements.  I guess my color choice could be more exciting, but I like to keep it simple.  I got my wrapping paper from paper source, they have an assortment of colors which is perfect for decorating / DIYing yourself.  All my fun ribbons (that I'm clearly obsessed with) come from various Etsy shops.  Finally, I just cut some pine sprigs from the back of the tree for toppers.   Below is a couple photos from my wrapping post last year.  Still natural elements, still loving plain paper.  I used rosemary and a variety of ribbon scraps last year.

I'm all about presentation, it's nice to put extra love and thought into something, when you take time to hand make, hand letter, etc your gift recipients will appreciate. And remember to have fun with it!

SIMPLE GIFT WRAPPING

I love wrapping presents, always have.  Making a package look pretty is one of the best parts of gift giving for me.  This year I decided to use natural colors and plain, pretty ribbons.  I cut some pine off of the back of our Christmas tree and some Rosemary from my moms garden to embellish the tops.  I love the thick tan ribbon and am especially obsessed with the velvet ribbon (ordered from Etsy).  Aside from that, I purchased everything else at the craft store (Michaels).   I can't wait to give these babies out (very soon in fact!).

DIY FLOWER CROWN

I made a flower crown for my shoot this week, I wasn't sure how this project was going to go down at first but I was pretty happy with the results.  This was my first time making one so I'm definitely no expert but this is what worked for me...
I only ended up using thick floral wire and scissors,  And of course whatever flowers you are going to use.  I asked some advice from a florist friends about storing them overnight.  She recommended keeping the stems long enough to keep in water (there are special little tubes you can buy at the craft store)  I didn't have time to get those so I just used a large tupperware bowl and gently set the flowers in it with a bit of water. It worked just fine and they kept overnight.
I measured a circle around my head and tied it off.  Then I began tightly wrapping the larger flowers onto the wire circle.  I only did the front and sides...
In the morning before my shoot, I finished it off by sticking the smaller stems and wildflowers in with the larger ones.  It was easier then tying everything on with wire, they stayed just fine! Cut the stems off pretty short before using so it will set on your head...
Afterward I took it apart and put the butchered flowers in little milk glass bowls and vases...they are still alive four days later!

And here is a little sneak peek from my shoot with Annalise!

I'll definitely be making one again soon.

SIMPLE VALENTINES DIY

Last minute, I decided I needed a couple of treats for family and friends in honor of Valentine's day... So here are a two cute and quick things I threw together...

These arrows will make cute gift toppers or even cut them in half and stick them into a cake or cupcakes.  You just need colored paper, feathers, gold wire, small wooden dowels, scissors, and double sided tape.  I wrapped the feathers on one end with the wire, cut out hearts like they teach you in elementary school (folding paper in half and cutting your heart), then used double sided tape to stick two hearts together on the other end of the stick.  I mean, they're just cute.

DIY // CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN

Start by gathering your supplies; card stock, paper cutter (or scissors), double sided tape and/or washi tape, paint, brushes, and pencil.  Grab anything else you want to use to put your own twist on this project.  I added red tags and fun black and white push pins.

I started by cutting my card stock into squares of the same size.  I lined them up on my background (below) and measured to make sure they would all fit.
I painted a square piece of wood with black chalkboard paint in case I wanted to write directly on the board.  You could also use poster board rather than wood or anything that is sturdy really.
I painted my numbers on the squares of card stock with different colors of paint.  If you want to make this in less time, you could type the numbers and print them before cutting!
I then painted a title and laid out my numbers how I wanted them.  I used double sided tape to stick them on the board putting a piece at the very top so they will fold up (your message will go underneath so allow some room).

You could keep it plain and simple and just use it to tear away each day as you count down to Christmas or...
I added an "I am thankful for" sign.  Rather than giving a gift to countdown, we have challenged ourselves to write something that we are thankful for / makes us happy about each other each day.  Hunter and I were just talking about how some days (even a full week) goes by and we feel like we haven't even had a real conversation or asked each other how we are doing.  Sad, I know but we have both been so busy with work, dealing with family things, and on completely different schedules.  I don't want days to pass by without saying I love you or thank you or I appreciate you. So hopefully writing it  down if I can't always say it will make up for the days when there are only quick hi's and bye's.  Sometimes it's the simple things.

'Tis the season.
